Autumn – the word conjures up associations of orange leaves, bonfires, skies shot with purple and red, hot dogs and soup, walks in the woods and curling up by the fire. After a long, hot summer, it’s almost a relief in a way to wrap up warm and play around with layers. As the air cools, my thoughts turn from sun tans to winter coats, from sandals to knee high boots, in a bid to prepare my wardrobe for the changing weather.
This season, monochrome, tartan, animal print, dressed-down day time looks and grunge are all going to be big news. It’s a really eclectic mix of trends, which follow on from the big hits of the summer – ‘90s, graphic prints and neon brights. Although you may feel overwhelmed when confronted with all the trends at once, the great thing about these trends is that you can pick and choose to find a style that’s right for you.
So, what should you wear when you’re braving the autumn night air? How about investing for starters in a classic aviator jacket and teaming it with a beanie. Throw in a fun statement t-shirt and mix and match with some retro skinny leather look jeans and a pair of Chelsea boots. If you’re not sure what Chelsea boots women are, think riding boots meet normal ankle boots. They’re going to be huge! An alternative to the aviator jacket would be to wear a fake fur jacket which is also big news this autumn.
For posher occasions, there are some beautiful dresses to choose from. If you’re feeling daring, try a red bodycon dress and black platform heels. Or, opt for a fun, preppy skater dress and team with wedges to create a playful look. If you’re really keen on animal prints, there are hundreds of animal and graphic print dresses and skirts to choose from, so have fun experimenting. Heart prints are also hot, as are fringe dresses and skirts.
If it’s a work do you’re going to, choose from slouch pants, harem trousers or classically tapered numbers, each of which will bring a cool edge to your look. Why not team these with dark floral print blouses and boyfriend blazers for a look in the office that’s bound to impress? There’s a heap of gorgeous heels on the market right now, so I suggest investing in a pair of cut out or peep toe shoe boots for added glam when you head out in the evening.
Don’t forget to accessorise your look with a gorgeous bag. How about a classic handbag to add a touch of chic to your ensemble? Alternatively, there are some fun colour block clutch purses available. Why not add a gold cut out triangle necklace or a funky geo ring to complete the look?
Once you’re all dolled up, you’ll be all set to hit the town for some autumnal fun! Just don’t forget the most important autumn accessory of all – an umbrella!
